I just downloaded Speaky via the Starbucks app as a free promo. What drew me to this app was the idea of an app that smartly extracts text from an online news article, Pocket queue, etc and then reads it back to you. Presto! Youve just made your own audio book. Congrats. I did not know this when I first started using the app, but an unintended consequence of this app is that it has turned my Pocket queue into an absolutely enjoyable source of entertainment. My Pocket app no longer sits around to gather digital dust. In other words, I often times will listen to my Pocket queue just so I can use Speaky. Speaky is truly, turning me in to a smarter and more informed human being.
Dont listen to the naysayers: there are no robotic overtones here. Each time you start an article, you get to choose from several pleasing English accents, not just Yankee English; I tested the app using the South African accent. A very pleasant to listen to accent, this voice really drew me in to the scientific article I was listening to. It did not distract me at all from my listening. The article was throwing a lot of new ideas and info at me and thus, I was having trouble with the default reading speed; with Speaky to the rescue, I was able to slow down the rate of speech so I could more easily digest what I was listening to. And the "back 15 seconds" feature will come in handy when reading those more technical articles.
Imports from your Pocket queue couldnt be any easier. Just give the Speaky app permission to link with Pocket. Then choose your fave Pocket articles and hit "save." Your Pocket articles will now be residing in your Speaky app. Give Speaky a try today!
