I was looking forward to using this app on PDF files. But it seems the share feature for this app is not functional. I dont see Speaky listed under that option when I want to share a PDF email attachment. I even tried copying the PDF to my Box account since this app help indicates it will work with Box. But still no option to add the PDF to my read list. Very disappointing.
It didnt really read my documents like it was supposed to. Used it for a Spanish document and was a total failure, works decently with English documents.
I rarely write a full detailed review for an app. However, this app is amazing and deserves a good review. Here, I will point out the strong features of this app. I will also address the issue of the PDF file that has been stated in the previous comments. High accuracy Adjustable reading speed Works with iCloud and Google Drive AS far as PDF file, the app is capable of reading the PDFs with the text as the main component of the document. For instance, if you convert a webpage to PDF (on your IOS devices) or covert any Word doc to PDF, then the text will remain as the main part of the document. However, if your PDF file is the mere image of the text, the app will not be able to determine where the actual text is located, which makes sense.
Like someone else said, the spoken word and highlighted words do not match. In fact, Speaky freezes up on the highlighting about a sentence into my articles. My other issue is the voice speed. I have saved it once at 1.0, realized it was too quick and changed it to 0.6. When I close the app and return later, it has been changed to 1.0 again. Other than that, I love the concept of the app and hope the bugs get taken care of in due time.
Was a decent and or adequate app and then it refuses to open/ install or uninstall. Glad it screwed up before I wasted my money on a bundle. Also the supposed five star review is so clearly the developer. Spare us all and stop developing apps. So frustrated with this app.
Listen to Speaky read news and research articles on the long commute to work. Lets me make use of that time better and I really like the "Send to Speaky Inbox" feature. Why buy audiobooks or watch training videos when Speaky can tell you the Wikipedia article?
When you want to read the news without reading, heres your tool :)
Its not sexy, but really useful for exactly what you think youd use it for.
I use Speaky to check for errors in hefty documents like research papers and other such projects. It really helps me catch mistakes that I would have never caught. Great proofreading tool.
This app is really good at what it does: extracting text and reading it aloud. The pronunciation isnt always perfect, but it is extremely useful when you need to review a document and cant have your eyes on your phone.
This app is simple and easy to use. It would be great if the voices werent as robotic thats an improvement for a future time. For what it does, it allows me to listen to an article while doing something else. It suites my needs perfectly.
Its great for listening to class readings while walking across campus! I feel so much more productive when I dont have to waste so much time reading for all my classes! Thanks speaky!
I must say at first I didnt think this would be that good or that I would use it as much as I do know! This app is awesome and extremely useful. Keep up the good work and thank you!
British voice is my favorite
Speaks is easy to use, but maybe Im a little eclectic in my apps. How about Chrome? Microsoft Outlook? The last text message on my lock screen? Preferred Language shows 3 entries for en-us. Are there 3 different voices? Any way to toggle among voices?
While the app works as advertised, it could use some usability improvements, for example, it seems not possible to manually select a reading language on a per entry basis if the app fails to detect the language for the entry; navigating between the various lists is awkward; creating an entry from text is not straightforward and once created, you cannot read from it directly (need to return to entry list and select the entry again). The app also has difficulty in processing texts in Asian languages, e.g. cursor and voice are often out of sync, language detection failures, etc. Looking forward to future updates to the app.
When Im doing things for work or just hanging out around the house, Speaky can read the articles to me. I also enjoy the variety of voices. It keeps things fun. Sometimes the voices sound a little bit too robotic, but when I dont have time to read to myself I appreciate having someone read to me.
Needs quite a bit of work. At around .9 speed, flash text no longer keeps up with speaking rate. It tends to freeze in the transition between landscape and portrait. Crashes when reading longer articles. Not worth downloading or using when one could just use the voiceover feature as given by the OS, with two swipes from the top of the screen upon viewing article.
Very reliable and great app. Ive the design and ease of use. Highly recommend.
